Meet the Commissioner

Mark Matkovich

Mark W. Matkovich is Commissioner for the West Virginia State Tax Department.

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin appointed Matkovich to the position in May 2013.

Matkovich began his government career in 1996 as City Attorney for Beckley. He went on to serve as Staff Attorney for the West Virginia Senate and General Counsel for the Senate Majority Leader. He was General Counsel to the Cabinet Secretary for the Department of Revenue before joining the State Tax Department.

He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Albright College and his law degree from the University of New Hampshire.

He and his wife, Karen, live in Hurricane.
